- Levanda, Lev (Leib, Yehudah)
- (1835-88)Russian author. He was born in Minsk, where from 1854 to 1860 he taught at a government Jewish school. In 1860 he became the Jewish adviser to the governor-general of Vilna. After the pogroms of 1881 Levanda became a supporter of the Hovevei Zion. His writings include Russian stories depicting Jewish life in the Pale of Settlement.
